Financing and Managing LGBT Nonprofits

MAP engages in several research projects that examine the finances, operations, and programs of LGBT organizations:

  • The Community Centers report prepared jointly by MAP and CenterLink, provides LGBT movement organizations, allies, partners, and funders with an overview of local LGBT community centers, including their capacity, their programs and services, the people they serve, and their technical assistance needs.
  • The International LGBT Advocacy Organizations and Programs report provides LGBT movement organizations, allies, partners, and funders in the United States an overview of international LGBT advocacy work, including information on the capacity, programs, strategies, tactics, and challenges of some of the leading organizations and programs in this sector.
  • The State of the States report examines the infrastructure, capacity and program priorities of 41 state-based LGBT advocacy groups in 36 states. MAP conducts this research jointly with the Equality Federation.
  • Standard Annual Reporting (SAR) seeks to provide a look at finances and operations across 53 of the largest LGBT organizations and 21 of their institutional funders. The reports are only available to participants. Map Members: login to view Standard Annual Reporting
